FAQs
What are the points to consider in preserving gold jewellery inherited from the family and other valuable jewellery items?

• Handle your jewellery with extreme care and very delicately

• Gently clean your jewellery with a soft cloth or get it cleaned by a reliable jeweller

• Never store antique jewellery in small containers

• Segregate costume jewellery from genuine gold jewellery

• Keep jewellery away from dust, perfume, hair spray, cleaning products and other harsh chemicals

• Wear your jewellery after putting all products such as perfume, creams, oils etc. to avoid discoloring

• Avoid wearing any jewellery while doing household chores, and sporting or strenuous activities
What are the recommended practices for storing gold and diamond jewellery?

• Make sure you store your jewellery in a box with a satin or velvet lining

• Ornaments studded with diamonds or other gemstones are more susceptible to scratches and wearing away

• Segregate jewellery according to their karatage and according to the gemstones they are studded with, such as diamonds, pearls, color stones etc

• Keep chains in a flat and straight position or hang them upright in order to avoid entangling and breakages

• Keep your jewellery in a dry place, as moisture speeds the tarnishing process
What should I use to clean gold jewellery?

• Use a soft, non-abrasive cleaning cloth, such as chamois leather or synthetic chamois to clean your jewellery. Try to clean in straight lines, not circular motions, in order to avoid making patterns

• A good cleaning liquid is useful for maintaining the shine of your jewellery. Cleaning liquids are recommended for intricate jewellery with delicate links

• To clean gold jewelry that does not include any gemstones, such diamonds or pearls, put the gold jewelry into lukewarm water containing a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid such and rub gently with your fingers or a cotton swab. For more severe cleaning brush lightly with a soft baby toothbrush. Be gentle as your jewellery may get scratched

• If your jewellery still looks dull, it may be important to get it cleaned by a professional jeweller
How should I store diamonds, pearls and colored stones?

A clean diamond is more brilliant and fiery. Dirt or grease on the top of a diamond reduces its luster

• Protect your jewellery when it is not being worn by separating it from other jewellery items; use a separate compartment in your jewellery box for your gems and diamonds in order to avoid scratching

• Cultured pearls need special care because of their softness. Clean and dry them after wearing and prior to storing in a special pouch or box

• To clean your studded jewellery, mix mild soap and water with a few drops of ammonia (optional) and gently wipe the jewellery piece with a soft non-abrasive cloth

• Although soap and water is the best choice for most gems and jewellery, do not use soap and water with amber, coral, emerald, jade, kunzite, lapis lazuli, opal, or turquoise

• Regardless of how dirty a diamond is do not use pins, needles, or other sharp objects to clean crevices. This will scratch the stone or surrounding metal

• Never use bleach or other harsh, abrasive chemicals. Many such chemicals will erode or discolor metal

• Never remove the diamond from the jewellery for cleaning. Any modification to the jewellery should be attempted only by a qualified professional

• Re-string your pearls every few years in order to maintain its strength and avoid breakage

• If your jewellery still looks dull, it may be important to get it cleaned and polished by a professional jeweller
Can you offer some advice on minimizing wear and tear for diamond jewellery?

• Items which are regularly worn need periodic cleaning to remove the film caused by cosmetics, soap, skin oil and perspiration. Diamonds, for example, have an affinity for grease and literally collect oils

• Activities which might subject a gemstone to sharp blows such as gardening, and other manual work, or even playing sports may damage a gemstone

• Chemicals present in hair spray, perfumes or cosmetics may cause damage to all kinds of jewellery, including gold, diamonds, pearls etc

• Avoid direct sunlight on your jewellery pieces; a very few colored gemstones, such as kunzite, may fade when worn in sunlight or in a tanning booth
Would you please provide some protection tips for fine jewellery?

• Fine jewellery should be taken to a jeweller for regular examination & cleaning. All the prongs on the gemstones should be checked for security

• When a jeweller cleans your jewellery, he will also check the stone itself for any damage that may warrant re-polishing

• Be sure you understand how your fine jewellery should be worn, how to store it, how to clean it, and what to look for to protect it from harm

• The care you provide your fine jewellery will reward you with years of pleasurable wear

• Most importantly wear your jewellery with confidence and a smile; it will bring instant sheen to your items
